Creating work that is evocative and engaging is a fundamental motivating factor and is my ultimate goal. In the process of achieving this end, I attempt to create a sense of movement/activity. The dynamics of movement or activity usually manifests itself in a visual/psychological paradox.The physicality of the primary medium (metal in most cases), is presented in an uncharacteristic manner, usually soft, yielding or stretched. In some pieces, I will combine or play one medium off another with opposite physical qualities (glass vs. metal), thereby presenting the viewer with a reality that makes no sense, yet it exists; affording the viewer an engaging moment to ponder.
